Original hand-burned, hand-painted artwork on birch canvas, 24" × 24"

Sky Between sits in the meeting place of land and sky, where movement, light, and direction cross. Burned by hand into birch and layered with acrylic paint, the work moves from grounded earth tones into open colour, rising through trees, lines, and sky.

A central moon carries the Mi’kmaq eight-point star, while the lines inside it draw from the look of Mi’kmaq quillwork. Shifts in colour echo the northern lights seen over Epekwitk this winter.

Created slowly and intentionally, the burn lines and paint exist in quiet conversation. The result is a piece that feels steady yet open; grounded in land, always reaching outward.
